Seeing Sound

I heard the gongs last night

Calling me to prayer

And I opened my eyes

Because they were too much to hear

I heard the gongs last night

Begging me to listen

I told them, I am not a believer

Aren’t you?, they asked

I heard the gongs last night

Whispering my name

They took my breath away

And left hope in its place

I attended my first Nada Yoga session the other night while away. Nada Yoga is a practice that uses sound to promote healing, peace and well-being. On this particular night, the amazing Reggie Hubbard played nine gongs, and it was like nothing I had ever heard before. It filled my entire body. It filled an entire room, and then some. It was somehow both overwhelming and calming. Magical.

I wrote the lines above the next day, and had the thought: If we can feel sound, can we also see it? And if so, what does it look like? This collage was the result.
