Free Real Estate

A few days ago, while moving some stuff around, I rediscovered two things: An old planner with lovely ivory paper I had never filled, and a book about the artist John Evans.

Each day, beginning in 1964 through to the end of 2000, John would make a collage from objects found on the streets of his NYC neighborhood. I am sure if it was his intention, but this practice created a log of sorts of what was happening not only where he lived, but in the world at large during those years.

As luck would have it, I had opened the mail that very same day and found a design I really liked on the inside of one of the envelopes. After my discoveries I went back and  ripped up the rest of the mail as well!

Trash + old planner + John Evans Inspiration = Today’s work
